What is a root server?

A root server gives you administrative root privileges. You manage the operating system, software, configuration and security yourself.

The term says nothing about the form factor: both a physical dedicated server and a fully virtualized KVM VPS with root access are root servers. What matters is the access — not whether bare metal or a hypervisor is running underneath. At noez you get both options from a single provider, on the same infrastructure and with the same support in German and English.

Root access also means responsibility: updates, firewall and backups are in your hands. You can shape your server environment yourself within the booked resources.

Choose between dedicated hardware and a virtual machine based on your project. The comparison shows the differences in resources, operating systems and scaling.

Dedicated root server (bare metal)

Overall the service was stable. I had for 4 months and no outages. However, the support only available on work days. The disk IOPS was low.
