I am very pleased with my collaboration with Noez. They have extremely low prices, and their services are of German quality.

Overall the service was stable. I had for 4 months and no outages. However, the support only available on work days. The disk IOPS was low.

GRE Tunnel IPs

How do GRE tunnel IPs work?

GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation) is a tunneling protocol. We route noez IP addresses through a GRE tunnel from Frankfurt am Main to your compatible Linux server.

A tunnel to your compatible server

Your server needs a public IP address, Linux with GRE support and a provider that does not block GRE. After ordering you receive a short guide; every rented IP adds 1 TB of included traffic and DDoS filtering up to 1 Tbit/s.

Additional IPs without switching providers

GRE tunnel IPs let you use additional IPv4 addresses on your existing Linux server. The tunnel costs €2.00 per month and each IPv4 adds €0.50. Your server and provider can remain unchanged.

Change the tunnel endpoint when moving servers

Because the IPs are bound to the tunnel rather than the hardware, you can configure a new tunnel endpoint when moving servers. After the change, services are reachable again under the same IP addresses without changing DNS records.

Compatible with Linux and GRE support

Your Linux kernel and provider must support GRE. We show the required setup commands after ordering; if needed, you can distribute the IPs within your local network.

Looking for whole subnets rather than individual IPs? Take a look at our IPv4 /24 subnet lease or the IPv6 /48 subnet. If your servers already run at noez, Multi-Service IP is intended for additional IPs routed to supported noez services. All options at a glance: lease IP addresses.

GRE tunnel IP FAQ

What is a GRE tunnel?
GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation) is a tunneling protocol that transports packets between two endpoints. We route leased IP addresses through the tunnel to a compatible Linux server.
Does the GRE tunnel work with Linux?
GRE is supported by common Linux kernels. Your kernel and provider must allow the protocol; you then create a GRE interface with our tunnel endpoints.
How much does a GRE tunnel IP cost?
The GRE tunnel costs €2.00 per month and each IPv4 adds €0.50. One IP therefore starts at €2.50 per month. This includes 1 TB of traffic per IP and DDoS filtering up to 1 Tbit/s.
What are the requirements for my server?
Your server needs a public IP address and a Linux operating system with GRE support. After ordering we send you a short guide with the required commands.
How many IPs can I use through the tunnel?
You start with a single IP and can add available packages when capacity permits. Every leased IP adds 1 TB of included traffic.
Can I move the IPs to a different server?
Yes. Change the tunnel endpoint to the new compatible server; once reconfigured, the IP addresses are routed through the new tunnel.
Is DDoS protection included?
Yes. DDoS filtering with up to 1 Tbit/s of filtering capacity is active at no extra cost for all GRE tunnel IPs.
Does the GRE tunnel work with Windows?
Our documented setup requires a Linux operating system with GRE support. We do not support direct setup on Windows.
