LXC VPS for Linux projects
LXC (Linux Containers) virtualizes at the operating-system level: your vServer runs as an isolated container on the host system's kernel. This avoids full hardware-virtualization overhead and uses the resources you book efficiently.
LXC VPS are the lowest-priced entry into our VPS range. If your project runs on Linux and does not need a dedicated guest kernel, you get a self-managed Linux environment from €1.29 per month.
Typical LXC use cases
- Web servers & CMS — set up WordPress and similar software yourself; some command-based apps in the beta installer also support LXC

IPs & snapshots
Every LXC VPS includes one IPv4 and one IPv6 address; plans designed for it let you add additional IP addresses. The snapshot option lets you manage system states, with the displayed price applying to each booked snapshot.
The limits are clearly defined: Windows does not run on LXC, and you cannot load your own kernel modules. If you need that, the fully virtualized KVM vServer is the suitable option; for workloads that benefit from higher CPU clock speed there is the KVM Turbo. See our vServer comparison for details.
The web interface shows which CPU, RAM and storage upgrades are available for your plan. With the snapshot option, you can also save and restore a server state there.
We operate our own hardware in premium data centers in Frankfurt am Main. Our technical team has round-the-clock access and can coordinate work on the host systems on site.

What is an LXC vServer?
LXC stands for Linux Containers: your VPS runs as an isolated container directly on the host-system kernel. It therefore does not use a dedicated guest kernel and supports Linux only.
Which operating systems run on an LXC vServer?
Linux only. The operating-system selector shows which distributions and versions are currently available as images. Windows requires a fully virtualized KVM vServer.
Why are LXC vServers cheaper than KVM vServers?
Containers share the host system's kernel and therefore cause significantly less virtualization overhead. We pass this efficiency on to you as a price advantage.
Which projects is an LXC vServer sufficient for?
Depending on resource needs, LXC suits web servers, CMS, bots, monitoring, databases, VPN and proxy services or staging environments. Windows, custom kernel modules and most Docker-based apps in our beta installer require KVM; some command-based apps also support LXC.
Is DDoS protection included with the LXC vServer?
Yes. Free DDoS filtering up to 1 Tbit/s is permanently active on every LXC VPS.
Can I test an LXC vServer beforehand?
Yes, the Test Center lets you try an LXC VPS free for 7 days. If you convert the service to a paid one during the trial, the data is retained; otherwise the trial ends automatically.
